The Color Classic is the exact same width as the SE and our other "real" compacts. It will fit on top of all of those zero footprint external drive cases just fine looking like it belongs there. I suspect this exact same width was to sell to schools where the size of their computer labs was already fixed at the size of an SE. The front to back depth is a couple of inches more to accomodate the longer color CRTs of that day. The height is a couple of inches higher probably to make the innards more user accessable than with the earlier compacts. The rounded top of the Color Classic's case is a bit problematic - you can't set things on top of it as readily as with the SE. I doubt that this was done for any other than cosmetic reason as there are no vent louvers in the top. Indeed, the Color Classic's fan pushes mighty air through the back with louver vents on the sides. The weight of the Color Classic is notably heavier than an SE likely in the 30# region! . The Color Classic turns on from the keyboard so you need not be concerned with fabricating a turn-on switch. And then there is that lovely crisp Trinitron color screen. Enjoy!
