You can connect the color pivot card to many normal Mac monitors. Playing around the other day, I hooked up the card in my test SE/30 to a modern TFT display via a Mac/SVGA adaptor. It displayed fine at 640 * 480 resolution with 256 colours -- not brilliant but useful. My card is the same ROM version. Are you sure that the card only has 256Kb? Mine has 8 DRAMs which I think means 512Kb and 256Kb doesn't sound enough to provide 256 colours at pivot resolutions.
My card came with a second hand pivot greyscale display (model 0276) with the appropriate cable (part number 590-0029). I eventually discovered that the cable didn't work because pin 15 at the monitor end is missing. I'll fix it up later in the week -- I found the pinouts at http://web.archive.org/web/19980529012136/http://www.radius.com/ Support/TechWeb/Cables/0029.html. I just hope that I didn't damage the thing by sending the wrong sense ID using the faulty cable.
