I did exactly that with a CC once - it's the kind of thing you don't do twice.

IMHO, the problem is not just doing a repair with the right colour, but with the right texture. Long term best idea might be to source a new front panel from a dead SE. Where are you geographically, in case people might have a spare case or front?
