The Colour Classics are the only compact Macs capable of using the video RAM SIMM. You 
can also use it in later LC family machines.

The memory in LCs is usually of the 3 chip variety. This fits in early compacts (Plus, 
SE, SE/30) and the Mac often boots but it will be unstable. Early compacts should use 
8 or 9 chip SIMMs. Later compacts (Classic onwards) should be OK with 3 chip SIMMs and 
8 or 9 chip SIMMs.
