When I first upgraded my Classic from 2 Mb to 4 Mb i got a lot of hangups. When I 
checked the memory again, I found that I had used three chip SIMMs. I replaced them 
with 9 chip SIMMs, and it haven't given me a problem from then. Conclussion: the 
Classic doesn't like three chip
SIMMs :-( .

By the way, the SIMMs I used for my Classic were savaged from some old 386 that were 
trashed and I took appart to save some pieces. Thus, you can obtain Macintosh memory 
(and perhaps other pieces like SCSI drives) easyly by getting some old PCs :-) .
