I just got an AC adapter for my 56K USR modem (been searching for that for months) and was wondering:
The modem works fine on my 7300 (OT, I know) but it works slower on my SE/30 than the 28.8 I normally use for it. I've tried the USR high speed and universal scripts for it, and they are both equally "fast" Is there a place I can download a script for this modem that would slow it down to 28.8 (or less) so the CPU can keep up with the baud rate? I don't use the internet often on this SE/30, but even loading text only pages have slowed down significantly (30% by my in my head math) When I first got this SE/30 online I used FreePPP 2.6.2 (?), but changed to OT/PPP, following the advice of a few list subscribers. That was about a year ago, and don't remember why I switched specificly, but I'm guessing no one would have suggested it if I hadn't posted a problem with my internet connection. It's worked pretty well since I've switched. What I'd like to do is use this serial port switch I recently got through trade, and have both machines "share" the modem, to save on the amount of wallwarts I have in this room. If someone can help me with this badly explained problem, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks, J White Buy American S.O.S. Save Our Steel -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
