Are the SE/30 and the 7300 using the same phone jack? Usually when I've run into a modem that is unexplicably slow it has been line noise on the phone jack. If the SE/30 is on a different jack than the 7300 you might try the SE/30 on the other one. Now usually, all the jacks in a house are roughly equally noisy but it couldn't hurt to check. If the two Macs are using the same jack or the SE/30 performs the same on the 7300 jack at least you'll know that the problem is with the Mac.
