Hi!

I think that the Command-Option-X-O thing does apply only to the original
Classic. Anyway, what I do to use that combination is to press it just after the
power-on chime, and maintain it pressed until I see the "Wellcome to Macintosh"
screen. If you follow this and still get a flashing question mark, it may be
because the Classic II doesn't have an internal ROM disk (not sure of it at the
moment).

If you are getting a flashing question mark, it means that the computer can't
find a disk to boot from. If this happens in a model that is supposed to have an
internal hard drive in all configurations (like the Classic II), something is
obviously going bad. Try to create a boot disk with Apple HD SC Setup and First
Aid in it, and try to determine if the disk has any problems. If the HD shows in
the desktop just after booting with the diskette, you may need to transfer a
System into it. If not, try to use First Aid and Apple HD SC Setup (in this
order) to locate errors in the drive. If even Apple HD SC Setup doesn't show the
drive, it may be dead, or perhaps the previous owner has taken out the hard
drive... Of course, it can be also that the SCSI controller is broken.
