The ones I have seen are usually 4"x6" or a bit smaller. But there are also
boards that fully fill the player's base - they are sometimes even 12" or
16" wide.

I don't know if you would be able to put a complete DVD player in an
"compact" SCSI external box. They have usually a DVD engine (sometimes a
full 5.25" DVD-ROM drive!), a transformer, and three boards (digital board,
power supply and connectors), the first two being quite large. Even if you
can use the SC20's power supply, the box will be almost fully filled with
the DVD engine, and there will be no space for the analog board.

But I think there is another solution: you can put in the SC20 box *only*
the DVD engine/drive, and put all the rest (the power supply, the digital
board and the transformer) inside the SE's case. The TV will leave enough
room into it.

Anyway, if you complete your project, I think many people here will want to
see pictures of it :-) .
