What am I doing wrong? Are the cards fried? How can I test or repair it?

I'm going to answer this by asking if you have tried it with a static address (manually) rather than just try to use the dhcp server of the router. Also have you set the correct Name server and domain name set which may help
http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor2200e.htm hard to find a english page for this one. :)
As you can set up servers behind this routers firewall, I'm guessing it will handle static addresses but it may not be the case. I'd also suggest you check that the mac isn't set to "ignore tpc until needed" if using Open Transport. If anyone knows if this setting affects various routers being able to allocate a ip address to the mac via dhcp on startup or not I'd be interested.

Sadly you may be stuck with the Asante "bug" and fix as Ken described earlier. :(

Good luck
