It's new to me. I use Clorox Cleanup 5-10 repeats and a long dry in the hot Calif. Desert sun. With a thorough rinse and scrub with a Teflon Pan sponge on the last application.
BUT. those who do the Dishwasher cleaning swear by it. The Detergent is caustic, moreso than liquid dishwashing soap, and apparently it has the power to make the case outer shell sparkle.
One must watch for fading of the Apple name and logo on repeated washings. Other than that, I've heard no negatives.
Thank you.
One of these days I'm going to have a Compact Renaissance Week during which I refurbish those 512 and Plus analog boards, see how much I can squeeze into the SE/30s (following in Gamba's footsteps), experiment with the Lapis video cards for the Plus which I've collected, and take a swipe at cleaning those yellowing cases.
In the meantime I'm collecting information and material. I just need to get caught up on some of these other projects, like my Outbound Laptops...
I lucked into a shrink wrapped Asante Mac Con +30IET64 for $5 at Computer Works (that's the Goodwill computer store) last week. :-) A couple of my earlier acquisitions were SE/30 video cards lacking the external connector part of the card. In other words, the part that plugs into the motherboard was in the bin, but the cable and socket that connects to the monitor cable is missing. Oh. I just pulled them out of the box and actually only one is missing the connector.
The sticker on the ROM chip says (NL = Newline), "Lapis Technologies (NL), ver. SE 30 FPD" which presumably is SE 30 full page display. Silk screened on the board is FCC ID# HOWLAPIS32490. The P/N is 10006 Rev. #3.
Does anyone else have one of these? Or a similar card with a standard DB15 Mac connector? Any interest in making a scan? There is another site on the board for header pins labeled "Video Out" but it's unpopulated, and I'm betting with little modification one could use a DB15 video connector rather than an FPD connector.
These companies seemed to make the same board for several different outputs. At least Lapis did. I have two boards for the Plus and one has an FPD connector, but the other has a DB15 connector and the only difference in them is a couple of resistors on the board and where the header is for the video connector. So I'm betting this SE/30 card can be made to do a standard Mac monitor and since I'm going to have to build the connector anyway...
The other card I have, which I thought was missing the connector, but is not is a Nutmeg Systems N8C193. It has a DB15 video connector. The ROM (actually EPROM) sticker says "C.193 (NL) 16" (NL) v1.2" Interestingly this label is hand written in pencil. Small run of production? Early card? Updated ROM added later? There's a jumper near the video header labeled "Autosense". Any experience, thoughts or speculation on this card?
I'd check Lowendmac to see if it has info but I can't seem to reach it tonight.
Finally, anyone in the Austin area have a Compact CRT available for cheap? I have two SE/30s and I jostled that darn square board on the back of the CRT and broke the little nipple trap--hiiiiiisssssssssssss. Most of the CRTs I've seen available would end up costing more than just buying another compact at Computer Works by the time shipping is included.
And here's the problem. I'm constitutionally unable to scrap a machine. So, if I buy a whole compact, then I have to make it work, so I always end up one CRT short. But I can't bring myself to spend more on a part than what the whole machine would cost me. But I feel compelled to fix this SE/30. Round and round I go.
I had the same problem recently when I needed a hard drive bracket for a Q605.
