I seem to remember using CW4 on the Performa 550 just fine. Did you try to
copy from a PPC install, or use an installer? I can't confirm that CW4 is
working on Performa 550 because that machine isn't working (won't recognize
any startup disk). I've tried a MOBO swap without a change in symptoms. I
think the HD failed. Could a bad HD/lack of HD prevent boot from CD, floppy,
or external Zip? I'm wondering if there might be a problem with the wiring
inside the case. I don't have any other SCSI drives to try in it and would
prefer not to buy a SCSI drive until after I know I can get this thing
working (all my other Macs are IDE). I used a Performa 6300 to make the
startup Zip disk I tried (7.5.3 - minimum for any Macintosh). I can burn CDs
from iMac Rev A (OS 8.6) or eMac (OS X.2.6); but, I haven't figured out how
to burn a boot CD for Performa 550 from one of these. Any suggestions would
be appreciated.
