I'd take out the 1 Mb SIMMs. Compact Macs do not like three-chip SIMMs, as you
stated in your recent mail to Zeus. If you don't replace them, you'll only
loose 4 Mb of RAM (you'll go from 20 MB to 16 Mb). If you replace them, just
make sure you use 8 or 9-chip modules.

If this doesn't work, I'm affraid you may have a bad IWM (floppy disk
controller) chip.
