I'm trying to silence my SE/30. I've moved the hard drive to an external case that lives under the desk, and would now like to shut up that infernally loud fan.
If I'm not running a hard drive, how dangerous is it to run an SE/30 without a fan at all? I don't actually use it for much -- it's more of a showpiece, usually just running a clock screensaver, or a bunch of xloads from other boxes under MacX -- so it's not like the CPU is slammed all the time. Alternatively, is there a silent replacement fan? Is it a standard size? Finally, does anyone out there have an Asante NIC for the SE/30 that you're willing to let go cheap? I thought it might be fun to run A/UX on it, but my EN/SC isn't supported. Hal -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
