If the SE/30 makes noises when it's supposed to stay quiet, then it isn't the
speaker. Chances are that the problem is in the cable that connects the analog
and logic boards (or one of its connectors), or the analog board itself. I'd
check first for a cold solder on any of the analog-logic cable's ends - they are
the most probable culprits from what I have learned.

As far as I know, it isn't, but someone who knows more than I might help you.
Anyway, take a look at the manual of your hard drive (usually you can get old
drives' manuals from the manufacturer's web - I think this must be true also for
IBM), since teh connector for the activity LED sometimes is in the middle of the
HD's logic board, instead of in a border near the configuration jumpers.
