Hi there,

I have recently installed an Asante MacCon SEET Ethernet card into my
Mac SE. The idea is to get the SE onto the Internet through my
broadband router (with the eventual aim of turning it into a
webserver!).

The link integrity light comes on fine, on the card and the dumb 10meg
hub, so I assume that the hardware part has gone ok.

When I install the Asante drivers it wants to install Appletalk and the
Asante SE PDS software, which sounds fair enough to me. After
installing that I then install MacTCP 1.1 from the same floppy.

Following that whatever I try I cannot get the SE to be 'pingable' ! I
have setup MacTCP Ok (I think) with a manual IP address of 10.0.0.7 to
match my other local devices, set the gateway (10.0.0.2) and set the DNS
servers of my ADSL supplier.

The problem seems to be that I need to have EtherTalk (phase 1 or 2)
installed in order to get another option to Localtalk in the Network
control panel. I choose Ethernet Builtin when setting up MacTCP,
although I have tried it with Ethertalk Alternative, but to no avail.
Everytime I have tried something new, I have completely trashed the
previous install of MacTCP (including the DNR file).

I am pretty comfortable with TCP/IP and think the problem lies with
getting the OS to see and use the card. (That said, I may be wrong ;-)
).

Not sure where to go now, I've tried a few WebPages, but they seem to be
for either other network cards or modem dial-up connections.

BTW I am running OS 7.1

Any ideas ?

Many Thanks
Mike
