If a compastor is leaking it needs to be found and replaced. Which I dont think one of those would be hard to find just the leaking one hard to find. But who knows. Once I get the cover off of it I will first unplug the floppy and the harddrive (If it has a harddrive) and see what happens.

Check around the pram battery and surrounding area. The Classic II's are hard on the pram battery. Left unchecked the result is a nasty mess when the battery leaks
You might try cleaning the pins of the rom and memory with a pencil eraser if you find no visable damage from a leaking battery or caps.
As a last resort the dishwasher, contact cleaner or a bath in a light mix of vinagar and water, ect is probably your next best option, please do a good visual check of the board as once you've washed it, its hard to find the stains and other signs that will help you indenify faulty componants.
Checkerboard is a fairly common occurance with classics which may indicate badly seated or dirty connections with the ram/rom or any of the other socketed bits like the verticaly mounted fpu as mentioned earlier. Point here is check the easy stuff first, make a note of stains or other stuff that shouldn't be on the board and the caps near the center of it, then as a last resort bung it in the dishwasher.
