Little kids do this all the time. All you have to do is move the Finder 
or the System file out of the System Folder. Lots of other logical things 
can go wrong to give you the flashing question mark without a hardware 
failure. I always listen to the drive; then put in a boot floppy with 
SCSI probe and Disk First Aid, and sometimes run the SilverLining hard 
drive test before replacing the drive.
