(...sorry, but I can't recall the exact name of the thread) The group was recently discussing problems with getting various large capacity SCSI drives to work in the compacts (ISTR the thread was focused on SE30's in particular).
I had posted one person (sorry, can't recall who) off-list that he would need to add a SCSI driver (like Charismac, FWB, Silver Lining, Syquest or ACS, etc.) to non-Apple ROM's drives to get them to properly boot. But I just recalled something that may be pertinent to the termination problem that was also mentioned a few times. I found a few years back that some - at least - of the compacts (SE, SE30, Classic II) wouldn't properly recognize a "newer, modern" (well, compared to the Mac) internal SCSI drive even with the drive onboard termination properly jumpered. (This wasn't a "term-power" issue, either ...and it didn't matter whether you were using a native 50pin drive, or a 68pin drive with a 50 pin adapter: the jumper termination just wasn't properly recognized.) The only reliable solution that I came up with was to make (or modify) an internal SCSI cable with *two* 50pin sockets, and hang an internal SCSI terminator at the end adapter of the newly made cable ...this might be something you'd want to try if everything else has failed with a drive (that otherwise is known working/good).
