I had this same problem. Depending on your system architecture, you
should be able to type (it depends on the configure script) something like:

./configure --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu

or

./configure --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu

They are always in that format, just play around with it a bit. Perhaps
someone with more experience with Basilisk specifically (I had the problem
compiling zlib) can tell you precisely what to type.
