Both the auto and manual inject floppy drives support 400k floppies. I don't see why Apple would have dropped software support for these disks prior to Mac OS X, but you may run into problems if the disk is MFS formatted. I'm fairly certain that System 7.x can read MFS disks, but I've heard that support was dropped in later versions of the OS.
A generic SE will not be able to write to high density disks unless you replace the ROM and SWIM. (If the FDHD is the model with the internal high density floppy, you have the appropriate ROM and SWIM.) Byron.
