I also need to figure out how to get MacWrite documents from my 400k disks to my G5. I guess I need an intermediary machine with an 800k drive that can read 400k disks, and then get the documents onto a high-density disk.

This is all based on the assumption that the Apple high-density SuperDrive can't read 400k disks. I'd love to be wrong about that!

Any suggestions on setting up a single system that can do this? I was thinking maybe an SE FDHD with an external 800k drive? Or an SE with an external SuperDrive?

Just to expand your options.. You might also look at a powermac. A OS less than 8.0, say a 7.5 install cd and Diskdup+. DiskDup+ is shareware and might be worth checking out for a few people. 400k supported ended at OS8.0 AFAIK.

A beige powermac is rather cheap and make good middle men for hooking
up 68k to new world macs without the software fuss. They almost still
make good stand alone machines if alittle green is invested. With
some research you should find something for a ppc to do so its not
sitting idle.

Nothing wrong with the SE FDHD either or a colour classic either just
trying to expand the options. You could always email them to yourself.
;) Maybe not.
