The setting for 32-bit addressing is stored in VRAM.  I should
know: my PRAM battery is dead and the setting is lost every time
I yank the plug!

I was hoping for something along the lines of the extension manager:
press a key during the boot sequence and select a setup -- only it
would manage the preferences as well (at least that all important
one in VRAM).
