I don't know anything about the EN/SC (though I'll be diving into that
soon), but my Asante ethernet cards for my SE and SE/30 don't appear to
work with 10/100 baseT switches, so you'll probably need a 10 baseT hub
or switch in addition to the router. Perhaps a list member using an EN/SC
can verify that?
I have an Asante EN/SC directly connected to my 10/100 Netgear Router working. No problems.
Maybe it's only some internal cards which do not work with 10/100 switches?
Or could it depend on the type of router / switch used?
Now from this point on I am a little lost. I have never used a Macintosh
with TCP/IP before. I don't know what I need to do next to make the
Classic II "TCP/IP ready". I read somewhere obscure a while ago that if I
wanted to use the Classic II in the manner I am planning that I would need
to upgrade to System 7.5.5. But then I also remember reading somewhere
that you can make System 6 browse the Internet which would tend to
conflict with the previous assumption.
Yep, just what I am doing. I have an SE with System 6.0.8 accessing the internet.
You will need either MacTCP (2.0.6) or OpenTransport, MacTCP being usable back to System 6, whereas OpenTransport requires system 7 (and has higher some hardware requirements like 68030 I think)
Try www.jagshouse.com or System 6 heaven for more info...
