If there is anyone out there with a 030-1246-A Mac Plus manual, I'd love to know the number of (numbered) pages and the copyright date. I also have some questions about its content ...
I have the 030-1242A manual - is that different?
Yes, that is the second-generation manual, from 1987 ...
I have manual 030-3281-A which is titled "Macintosh System Software Users Guide Version 6.0' and has an illustration of a 'about the finder' window showing Finder 6.1 and System 6.0. I also have two similar manuals numbered Z030-3281-A.
I have manual Z030-3399-A which is titled "Macintosh System Software Users Guide' and has an illustration of a 'about the finder' window showing Finder 6.1.4 and System 6.0.4
I guess these correspond to the two you have. :-(
"Z" must be a designation for the UK, of course. But your comment about the illustration got me to look in my copies, and I noticed the amazing section in the back of the 6.0 guide: "A History of Macintosh System Software" (Appendix A) ... This section does not exist in the 6.0.4 guide.
I'll have to make a few adjustments based on what is said there. The main contradictions are:
[1] It says Finder 4.1 was created in January 1985. I think this is the writer being too clever. First, ResEdit shows that it was designated Finder 2.2 at that point. While insiders may know that it was not changed in substance when it became Finder 4.1 on April 8, 1985, that is nonetheless the creation date of the file that Apple distributed with System 2.0.
[2] It says System 3.3 was "created in the fall of 1986 to be shipped with the AppleShare file server" ... This is more interesting--it would seem that System 3.3 was first released as they say, and then in January 1987 it was tweaked for Finder 5.4 ...
The Mac Plus/512Ke software bundles section is still a long way from completion, so I have not posted it. If you have a set of disks/tapes and are willing to help, let me know.
I have the 512ke user manual - any help?
Thanks! I'll be in touch when I get around to that.
