I'd say
that the thrill is in both the chase and opening them

from 5 Compact Macs, I've got 2 PowerBooks, a
Portable, 2 PPC 6100/60(66) with AV, a bevy of Quads,
a couple of II's and a lot of PC stuff. It's easy to
get wrapped up in grabbing these things.
One thing I've noticed, though, and that is Macs are
far easier to repair/restore than PCs, and seem longer
lived. The oldest PC I have (aside from original IBM
PC and an XT, which, like cockroaches, are almost
indestructible) is a Toshiba T1000 laptop, and it is
dead. Dead dead dead. Machine of similar vintage, my
main Plus, runs like a charm. Go figure. Newer PC
desktops seem to have shorter life spans, especially
if they are made by any of the smaller companies that
were around in the late 80's-early 90's (I've found
IBM PS/2 series machines left out in the rain that,
once dry, would run like a charm. Yet I've seen newer
486 and Pent-class machines just as dead as can be). I
have yet to find a Mac that I've not been able to
resurrect. You gotta love 'em.

This hits the nail on the head of why I have brought so many Macs home
to roost in my barn.

I've ALWAYS brought dead PCs back. Have one here now that was trash-bound.
Repairing a damaged sector in the 6 gig HD and re-installing Win 98 has
provided me with a free P200 OverDrive with two 24x CD ROMS and an HP
Rewriteable.

Also in the pile being trashed is a Performa 15 inch monitor. Needs a little
soldering, but will work when I'm done.

It goes at a lowball price to a needy user. I too am moving. Sept. is a
target but I'll be struggling to meet it. I have lotsa Mac and Apple and PC
stuff to sell. Prolly should have a yard sale and hope people nearlby are
willing to drive up and buy.

How did you repair the damaged sector? I have a laptop HD that has a few that need to be fixed. Did you just mark the bad sector off?
