In the same place where earlier models of the Macintosh have the battery lid (in the back of the case, over teh power switch and the power plug), there is also a lid in the Classic. If you remove it with a flat screwdriver, you will see several "pots" and a couple inductances that will let you adjust the shape, position and focus of the Classic's display.
But AFAIK, compacts rarely need that kind of adjusts. If the screen has an odd shape or is too "compressed", it may be the blame of the power supply. If you have the tools and knowledge to do that, I'd say you to check the power supply's outputs (and correct them if they aren't correct) before trying to adjust the picture. If you have to adjust it, try to make the image exactly 7" wide by 4.8" high (to keep the 72 dpi ratio), check that the vertical borders of the picture are vertical lines, and fix the focus so the most sharp part of the image is mid way from the center to the corners. That way, you'll have a near-perfect image :-) .
