As Clark wrote, building a box yourself would cost more in time and parts than buying second hand. Ask on the uk.adverts.computer.mac newsgroup (the charter is at http://www.usenet.org.uk/uk.adverts.computer.mac.html) where you should be able to acquire a couple of boxes and connecting cable for beer money. My own preference is for Farallon PhoneNet connectors rather than Apple style DIN connectors (PhoneNet connectors are less easy to pull apart) but they work equally well aside from that qualification. The market for really nice stuff such as GatorBoxes and FastPaths (Localtalk routers) is slow so even if you have a really big network or need to do something unusual, the cost is not discouraging.
