After it's been sitting for a while unpowered, place your finger on the screen and turn the switch on in back. You should feel and maybe hear the tube powering on. It's a small, brief puff of static electricity. If you get that, then maybe the keyboard cable or the keyboard itself is/are bad? Look at the keyboard round connector. There should be four pins in the hole and a rectangular blade of plastic at the bottom. Both ends if removeable from the keyboard. Try another keyboard if suspicions arise over this one.
