Hi all.

I have some compact Macs networked together via PhoneNet. They are
connected to a central fileserver (PowerMac 6500/275) which is connected
to the internet.

An example of a computer on this network is a Color Classic running system
7.1 connected via a PhoneNet adapter and using AppleTalk File Sharing.

Is there any way to:

- Make it so that a computer on the network (such as the CC) can connect
to the Internet via PhoneNet?

- Allow an OS X machine to access files on any of the Macs on the network
from an ethernet port. (The PM 6500 is connected to the Internet via
Ethernet and a LAN with a local router).

If any of this is possible, please let me know fairly comprehensive
descirption of how it can work.

LocalTalk Bridge (free from Apple) handles bridging the LocalTalk network to the EtherTalk. To access the Internet from a LocalTalk connected computer you use MacIP for TCP/IP and you need a router to get from MacIP to Ethernet. IPNetRouter (free demo at www.sustworks.com) will do this. Depending on your the above mentioned local router you may need to route the MacIP subnet via NAT (Network Address Translation) to the local router. That is a double NAT.

I have DSL and a wireless router providing access to the LAN. A server runs IPNetRouter to provide DHCP (better features than the HW router) and NAT routing to MacIP. Separate Ethernet-LocalTalk HW bridges provides the LocalTalk connection. Just for grins I recently setup a PB2300s, two PB280cs and a PB180 on a LocalTalk LAN with the 2300 connecting to the Ethernet LAN using a newly acquired Newer Ethernet MicroDock. The 2300 is running LocalTalk Bridge, the server is running IPNetRouter. All the PBs have Internet and LAN access albeit slow.
