I have somewhere in the range of 18-20 compact Macintosh units I need to get
rid of.

I have put this entire lot on eBay with no reserve, and a starting bid of
$10 and got not one single bid.

If you are local to the Seattle, Washington area you can come to *me* and
take as many as you want for free.

If you live elsewhere and would like them shipped, I would ask only that you
pay shipping and packaging costs plus a buck or two for my time & gas.

This is the FINAL OFFER. If I get no takers here these systems will be
dropped at local Goodwill and Value Village locations. It is imperative I
free up the space they occupy. I have been trying to move these systems for
nearly a year, and so far have only gotten rid of about 10. I had around 30
to begin with.

The FACTS:

* 90% of these systems are Macintosh SEs.
* The other 10% consists of SE/30s (all of which have what I would consider
fairly major problems), one Macintosh Classic, Classic II shells and SE &
SE/30 shells. There are no 128ks, 512ks, Pluses or Color Classics.
* There are no keyboard or mice to go with these. Nor power cords. They
are the computer units ONLY.
* They are provided AS-IS. I do not have time to do a detailed diagnostic
on each and every one. I know for a fact some have hard drives that are on
the verge of failure. A portion of the SEs have the original Miniscribe 20
megabyte drives which are flaky at best and didn't pass the Apple SC HD
Setup diagnostic when I ran it.
* Again, the SE/30s are not in very good condition. The nice-looking and
good-working SE/30s were the first to go.
* The Macintosh Classic is in near-mint condition and already has the
fully-loaded Classic memory expansion board so you wouldn't have to hunt for
one. It does not, however, have a hard drive.
* The SEs are of just about every SE model ever made, save the 1/20 and
1/40: SE FDHD, SE Superdrive, SE Dual 800k, SE w/ Miniscribe, and just plain
SE with a single drive. IIRC, one or two of them actually does NOT have an
expansion slot, which would indicate to me to be a very very early model and
which would seem to contradict the "SE" part of the name ("System
Expandable").
* The good SE/30s are already long-gone!
* A number of these have neat and useful expansion cards installed in the
slot. Don't ask me to make a list of what, because I don't have time to
pull each and every one out and try to figure out what the heck is going on.
I *can* say, however, that they are mostly Asante Ethernet cards. Untested.
* Physical condition of the cases ranges from pretty darn good to poor or
fair. I say poor *OR* fair because some of the "poor" ones might be made to
look better with a little time and some 409 cleaner. These originally came
from the University of Washington. As such, most have small stickers
indicating the origin and a few have big writing in black marker telling
what department they belonged to. Both could probably be removed.
* Some of the machines have faint to moderate burn-in.
* Did I mention there aren't any good SE/30s left?

I would like to clarify my definition of "shells" from above. Anything I
consider a "shell" has had at least ONE major component removed to make the
machine inoperable. Mostly, it is simply that the logic board has been
removed but in some cases it might be the power supply or an analog board.
This was mostly done by me in machines that had such horrible burn-in or
other problems that I felt they were useless otherwise. That is not to say
the "shells" might not still have a plethora of good, working parts
available for harvest, including but not limited to the shell itself.

I also have an ImageWriter II and a StyleWriter 2400 printer up for grabs.
The StyleWriter seems to work fine, it worked the last time I used it (maybe
a year ago) but it needs a new ink cartridge. The ImageWriter worked fine
two weeks ago but now it seems that the "home" button has finally given out
that tells the printer when the head has reached the "home" position and
prevents it from slamming into left side of the printer and causing print
jobs to halt. I don't really know how easy this is to fix, and I don't
really care, as I have other ImageWriters available. Maybe someone out
there knows how to fix it and can use it-- it works great otherwise! I'll
even throw in a brand-new, un-opened ImageWriter II ribbon for use with it.
If nobody wants this one I'll probably just throw it out.

ANYWAY...

Having said all that, I would like to clarify a few more things. It would
be ideal for me to sell these in small shipments of two or three units each.
Of course, this is unlikely. So I am willing to sell units individually.
Or if I can find someone who wants the whole lot, that is great too. But
keep in mind that shipping and packaging on the entire lot is likely to be
tremendously expensive.

In case you skipped over it above, I am located in Seattle, Washington.
Again, anyone who wants to drive here can come and take as many as they want
for free. Otherwise figure shipping from 98037. I have no problem shipping
overseas because I'm not paying the bill. :)

I guess that's it. If you can think of a question that isn't answered
above, feel free to ask. I would love to find good homes for these with
someone that could find a use for them, but I have been trying for nearly a
year now and not had tremendous luck. So this is it.

Of course, please reply off-list. Thanks for reading!
