I've never tried networking a Plus to an iBook (I don't own an iBook, otherwise...), but I'm going to guess that your problem lies in some Asante 10baseT gear not playing well with 100baseT gear, assuming the iBooks ethernet is 100baseT. I wasn't able to get my SE/30 (with an Asante 10baseT card) to "see" my G4 on the network until I bought a cheap 10baseT hub (or a switch, but they cost a few cents more these days), and hooked both machines to the hub. However, that was with System 7.1. I know when I upgraded our G4 to OS 9.2.x, I had to add (to my SE/30) a few file sharing extentions or control panels from System 7.5.3 to make things work again. If you've got a hard drive on the Plus (I assume you do, as I don't think 6.0.8 and all that other networking stuff will fit on an 800k disk), you might want to consider trying to install 7.5.3 on the machine (God knows you don't want to use 7.5.3 on it as an everday OS, but maybe setup System Picker to go back and forth between the two?), and see if the OS is the problem. Before you do any of that though, wait a day or two, and see if any of fellow listers chime in with a surefire solution. I would say that if you have access to a machine that has 10baseT ethernet and is running an OS somewhere in the 7.5 to 8.6 range, try hooking one machine at a time to it, and see what happens. (I'm picturing a PM 7200-9600 machine, but whatever's handy) If this is an option, at the very least, it will help other list members narrow down what's not working. I'm sure none of this helped, but perhaps you've got a few ideas now? J White -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
