Hello, I have recently finished restoring my Mac Plus, and I have a shiny new version of 6.08 installed onto an HD20SC hard disk, I installed MacTCP and MacPPP to connect it to my network, everything has gone fine and I can confirm that MacTCP and PPP work fine on system 6. I must admit to being really impressed with the speed of system 6 and would really like to keep using it, but the problem is the apps! According to System 6 heaven the web browser to use is MacWWW (Samba) which I downloaded and installed, but it isn't really suitable for modern internet usage as it doesn't seem to support hardly any standards, for example you can't load google which I can using MacWeb and also doesn't seem to support HTTP 1.1 TBH it seems to be HTTP 0.9! Ok so next step was telnet, NCSA telnet 2.6 works reasonably well, but I seem to have some problems especially the lack of a Control key (I know this is the keyboards fault). Fetch 3.0.3 works to a degree but I get a system error if I do a directory refresh. And finally I though ok I'll try a newsreader so Sys 6 heaven again suggests The-news-240.hqx although the link was no longer valid I did find a download but I can't seem to get this app working either.
So really I would like to know from any fellow system 6 users what apps do you recommend for the following: www? nntp news client? and, Telnet? Thank you.
