The Classic and Classic II both have ample room in their chassis for alternate drives. The design did not change ... well actually it did change -- the opening in the metal chassis goes all the way across, it's actually bigger than that of the 128k through SE/30! I can't for the life of me imagine why they did that as it makes the chassis far less rigid than the earlier design and as far as I know, the Classic form factor never made use of it. Even if the color monitor would have fit in there, the Color Classic would not have taken advantage of that hole.
And of course you know better than anyone what's involved in the Colour Classic. Stuart Bell wrote: -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
