The Classic and Classic II both have ample room in their chassis for
alternate drives. The design did not change ... well actually it did change
-- the opening in the metal chassis goes all the way across, it's actually
bigger than that of the 128k through SE/30! I can't for the life of me
imagine why they did that as it makes the chassis far less rigid than the
earlier design and as far as I know, the Classic form factor never made use
of it. Even if the color monitor would have fit in there, the Color Classic
would not have taken advantage of that hole.

And of course you know better than anyone what's involved in the Colour
Classic.
