It's only 9. An 8.6 share won't mount in 10.4

We're not alone. The problem is just how to make a case so it might get fixed.

I suspect that connections to OS 9 and possibly 8.6 are possible using AppleTalk over IP as opposed to AppleTalk over Ethernet. The difference is in the URL handed to the mount_afp tool. It's probably possible to purchase ShareWay for each OS 7 machine but it costs more than the machine is worth.
