Am pleased to report that I finally got my new 40mb drive bolted into my SE. As it turned out there were just two screws toward the rear that attached the sled(?)... the hard drive holder... to the floppy drive.
Only real difficulties were: (1) Couldn't find my Phillips screwdriver for a long time, and (2) Couldn't find any place on the new drive to plug in the power cord for that little light that illuminates when the drive is working.
Put it all back together, plugged it in, was rewarded with a happy-sounding bong chime, and then presented with a message saying something like, "Hey buster, you're going to have to rustle up some more memory if you're planning to run System 7." So I will.
With the price of gas back down to two bucks maybe I can hit my transportation budget for the cost of 4mb of 150ns, 30 pin SIMMs.
