512k's internal floppy drive is so stiff that when I put in a disk,
the disk cannot be inserted fully so that it "engages" and drops in.
It will only go in the first stage of the insertion operation. When
you put pressure on the disk, the Mac returns the "disk unreadable"
message and asks you if you want to initialize or eject the disk. The
disk boots fine from the external 400k drive.

sends you to Dans LEM and states that the artical is no longer hosted
there, I always figured one of Mr Garrison's would take its place (I
usually quoted from one of them) but it hasn't happened nor has Pickle
updated the links in the faqs to point here
