I have taken to using a fairly large - 5 inch - pair of wire cutters to snip the top half from a soldered-in aluminum capacitor. That allows you to pick at the internals until a circular plastic insert becomes visible. A little more picking and you can separate the base into two parts, one for each pin of the original capacitor. At that point it's simple to heat one pad at a time and use a pair of forceps to pick up the wires. Clean up remaining solder with commercial "solder-wick" or use a piece of shielding braid dipped in an alcohol / rosin mixture. My preference then is to replace with tantalum electrolytics. The 47uF at 16v is not critical. Most are on the 5 volt power and can be replaced with 6 volt capacitors. The ones on the +12 volt line can be smaller than 47µF. -- --> From the U S of A, the only socialist country that refuses to admit it. <-- -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
