No, it isn't a hoax. It is Ebay item #5791473252. But the auction was closed before its end without any bid, andthat does not surprise me: I think, as many other people, that the auction's conditions were bizarre, and that a free auction with a starting price of $5,000 or less (and no reserve, of course) would probably have raised the price over the original starting value.
