I had a similiar problem with my Apple Macintosh SE/30, It was easily fixed by replacing the chip capacitors on the motherboard.
Reference : http://www.biwa.ne.jp/~shamada/fullmac/repairEng.html#SimasiMac I replaced ALL of the chip capacitors (C1,C3,C4,C5,C7,C8,C9,C10,C12,C13 & C6 ) with new Electrolytic Type chip capacitors (47uf 16v & 1uf 50v respectively). I obtained my chip capacitors from RS Components Ltd (www.rswww.com), the specification of which are as follows ; RS Stock No qty Description 108-340 1 Capacitor,electrolytic,aluminium,SMT,85degC 50v,1uf 108-211 10 Capacitor,electrolytic,aluminium,SMT,85degC 16v,47uf Since there is a min order qty with RS, you will need to purchase 5x 108-340. A word of warning when removing the old chip capacitor with snippers, since it is very easy to lift the tracking on the motherboard. Luckily I had an Old Apple Macintosh IIci motherboard - which was non operational, so practised on this one - prior to attempting to perform this on my Apple Macintosh SE/30. Also the Apple Macintosh SE/30 motherboard is more cramped with components & less easy to work with than the Apple IIci motherboard. Removing the old chip capacitors is not for the faint hearted & allow loads of time to perform the task. Best of Luck, Hope I have been of help.
