Tony,

It's very hard to believe that both the simms went bad at the same time so even if you can find one 4Mb you can swap it out, one at a time. But doesn't the Classic II have 2Mb of motherboard ram? Just remove the simms - if that doesn't cure it then it's not them :-)

Have a very close look at the MB for signs of capacitor leakage....

Of course it's always easier to find a problem if you have multiple machines to swap parts with..

Oh really? Damn! I had to do a special swap with a friend some years
ago, involving me doing about 2d work networking her home, to get
those 4MB sticks. I don't have many more.
