That might work, I'm not sure. The important thing is to remove the manually installed version from nvidia if you had done that, and install nvidia-glx-180, then restart. If that doesn't work, I'd try aptitude purge nvidia-glx-180, then reinstalling, and seeing if that helps. Having various parts of different drivers lying around can cause issues.
