@Eliah it's a show stopper, why? (let me give you a typical use-case) because my wife couldn't have installed compiz 0.8.6 from Guiodic's PPA and if I was not there she would have simply rebooted to her Windows 7 partition not to return again in Linux land.
by the way metacity (the "no effects" alternative) simply sucks with video overlaying on 64bit/ATI-Radeon machine.
