@paultag Nope, top didn't show 100% CPU usage. However, zeitgeist- datahub was a zombie. What is more confusing is that I booted in into Linux AccessDenied 2.6.38-11-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 29 19:05:14 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux, and compiz --repl... did the same thing but metacity --replace didn't actually appear - the freeze was still there. It is confusing because with one kernel it looks like a fault with compiz, while with another it looks like a fault with Xorg. It is seriously bugging me.
