I'm starting to suspect there's a memory leak in this compiz package, though I don't have the exertise to verify. All I can offer is that compiz has a size of 1.6 GiB in memory at the moment, which seems excessive for this program. I'm finding that my system is paging occassionally, which I never recall having problems with before.
I attach a screenshot of `htop' showing the stats for compiz. Does it seem about right to be using this much memory? (more than firefox!?)
