nv 340.24 got pushed to the xserve ppa yesterday and I updated to 340.24 and after a full day of use the issues I had appear to be gone. The issues were: screen "shaking" or "wiggling" text on web pages in addition to the flicking of random UI elements.
stock compiz was untouched.
