When you say 'like in chess' I suppose you mean the threefold
repetition rule (see

Requiring 3 repetitions instead of 1 is an excellent idea because it
avoids problems with false /unbalanced cycles, and gives both players
ample opportunity to break the cycle (which they should do if there is
a bigger play elsewhere).

Given that normal ko's occur frequently this rule alone would
radically change the game. However, as a rule for handling only the
long cycles it's pretty good.

Unfortunately we cannot use it because it was 'invented' in the chess world ;-)
