I haven't seen the papers, so I can only speculate. But I can immediately
think of "patterns" like the following, which all depends on having a
sufficiently complex representation of the board:
- if I play there, I will be in atari
- if I play there, I put an enemy in atari
- That's an eye-like point, don't play there
- Playing here connects to two previosl-unconnected groups
- and one of them is unconditionally alive and the other is not
- Playing here affects some local fight far away (ladder break)
- Playing here is legal, but has no chance of ending up as my point, so
makes no sense
But has anyone seen any good 0x0 patterns ;-)
