You should know me better:) Apart from the difference between 99.99999% and 100% security and any very subtle sarcasm you might enjoy to perceive for that, Windows can be configured as very secure. Besides sharing your view of using a router, I suggest:

With a few minor changes, this is applicable also to Win7 64b.

Before connecting the network cable to a newly installed PC, first I always set up the security concept. Needless to say, the whitelisting concept does not use any blacklisting AV software (or rather: AV malware).
