You can check afterwards, but the programs should be adapting their behaviour to the rules, so they will play for a safe +50 rather than a risky +75. Isn't the way to play this to use the payoff function [-50,+50] to score the terminal positions in the playouts, at least in the first round? Interestingly, the programs should then play later rounds to win the tournament, so the scoring function should change as things progress, so that programs that are ahead play safer, while those that are behind may gamble on risky +50 options, knowing that the alternative is to lose anyway. This may not be your intention but a tournament which aggregates scores across multiple games could see behaviour like this (if the programs know where they stand).
